Instruction for the Week

Doctor Appointments/Absences:

My doctor appointments have changed to every two weeks. I normally have my appointments after school, but there was not any available after school this week.

Literacy and Theme:

Our letter of the week is the letter “Ii”. The sight words for this week are: go/me/you. I am changing my plans for this week. Instead of focusing on the Gingerbread Man, the students are going to read different versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Since we are watching the play, I felt it was important to compare the play to different versions of the story. We will still focus on the story elements of each book, but we will also compare and contrast different books. The Gingerbread project is still due this Friday.

Read to Self: Students will read books and look for 5 “Ii” words.

Read with Someone: Buddies will read different versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and the students will ask the Kindergartners comprehension questions.

Word Work: Students will rainbow write their sight words, read around the room, use stampers to write initial sounds, beginning/ending sounds, or the whole word, and students will write words from the -an family.

Writing: Students will change the endings of different versions of Goldilocks.

Listening: Students will listen to a story and explain their favorite part.

December Family Project:

The December Family Project is due this Friday. Please let me know if you do have the rubric or Gingerbread Man template. Students should create a gingerbread person that represents one of the stories we have read. Here is a list of Gingerbread stories we have read:

  • The Gingerbread Man
  • The Gingerbread Boy
  • The Gingerbread Girl
  • The Gingerbread Girl and Animal Crackers
  • The Gingerbread Bear
  • The Gingerbread Cowboy
  • The Library Gingerbread Man
  • The Gingerbread Baby
  • The Gingerbread Friends

Math:

Everyday in Math students will take a survey and compare the findings. We also will work on our December Math Journals. We will work on the following activities:

  • patterns
  • exploring calculators
  • ST Math
  • addition sentences

Sincerely,

Ms. Prasad-Heintz
