Instruction for the Week

Doctor Appointments/Absences:

My doctor appointments have changed to every two weeks. I normally have my appointments after school, but there was not any available after school this week. As we move into January, my appointments will be every week. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Field Trip:

Next Monday (the 8th) is our 2nd field trip. Please remember that all students need to bring a lunch. This can be in their regular lunch box. We will eat in the classroom.


Literacy and Theme:

Our letter of the week is the letter “Gg”. The sight words for this week are: come/have/run. Our theme for the next two weeks is the Gingerbread Man. We will read several different versions of the book. We will then compare and contrast the multiple versions by discussing the characters, setting, phrases, and if the main character gets eaten. Students will work on the following during centers:


Read to Self: Students will read books and look for sight words.

Read with Someone: Buddies will read different versions of the Gingerbread Man and the students will ask the Kindergartners comprehension questions.

Word Work: Students will rainbow write their sight words, read around the room, use stampers to write initial sounds, beginning/ending sounds, or the whole word, and students will write words from the -an family.

Writing: Students will write sticker stories focusing on gingerbread people and continue to use their new rubric to focus on writing.

Listening: Students will listen to a Gingerbread Man story and focus on their favorite part.


This Monday, students will receive a letter and a rubric for our December family project. It will be due on Friday, December 12th. I will post the information after this post. Please do not allow your child to rush through the project. It is important that students take the time and use the provided rubric to help guide their choices. This is a family project so please help your child as well!  Enjoy!



Everyday in Math students will take a survey and compare the findings. We also will work on our December Math Journals. I hope you have had a chance to look at the October and November Math Journals. This week in Math, students will focus on the following:



  • using a numberline to count
  • identifying the bigger number
  • ST Math
  • addition sentences
